Driving from the airport to the secluded north-west corner of Langkawi, it was clear that this was only a partly ‘developed’ tourist destination, which suits me just fine. The main island is made up of dense rainforest, green peaks, exotic wildlife, 5* resorts and white beaches… we would be staying in an incredible place that accommodates it all!

Now… up til now i’ve felt obliged to sling the Lowepro over a shoulder at the dawn of every new day… to be honest it has become a bit of a chore. It was time to aline myself to the ‘put the camera down and enjoy the moment’ way of thinking, but i’d be far too tempted if it were within hands grasp… so in the room safe it stayed for the majority of my time amongst this forested cove of paradise… R’n’R (Relaxation and Restraint)

A few days in, after in-trusting capturing the experience to my ever-deteriorating iPhone 4 lens, i was alerted to a post-rainfall ruckus outside… A troop of Long-tailed Macaques descended upon our terrace roof!

As much as i wanted to relax, maintain lethargy and ignore the photographic opportunity… I felt an itching responsibility to myself to pick up the camera. So i duly scratched…

This was a perfect way to the end the Family Holiday half of my month in Malaysia. It’s been a fun, indulgent and memorable trip, and i’ve tried (as always) not to take any of it for granted. In front of me is two weeks of rural living… time for some mind adjustment and travel adaptability.
